Accidental – A Day in the Life of Jake Molloy
Accidental, a music video for the track superbly penned and performed by Jake Molloy, is a raw, handheld documentary-style glimpse into a day in the life of the artist. Directed by Lewis Andrews and shot in Manchester, the video offers a real interpretation of Molloy’s daily life and his unyielding ambition to thrive in his music career.
As the video commences, we see Molloy waking up in his dark room, shielded by a dusty curtain drawn shut. His room is adorned with Beatles vinyl records, memorabilia, and photos of friends pinned on a board. He sleeps on a simple mattress on the floor, reinforcing the stripped-back nature of his lifestyle.
The opening scene transitions into a slightly hungover Molloy descending the stairs for breakfast, sharing a tender moment with his mother before stepping outside into the sharp, crisp winter. Topless amidst the cold, his self-inflicted needle tattoos are on full display.
The day progresses with Molloy leaving his home to catch a bus (and stealing his mum’s toast from the table), an intimate scene where we see him jotting down rhymes, reminiscent of Eminem’s raw beginnings. His journey takes him to a local cafe for a cup of tea, followed by a visit to the park to link with friends, before finally returning to the studio to complete the recording of Accidental with Freeme.
