Wonderfilm Pictures’ RED KOMODO-X VFX Array caters for large scale productions looking for a practical VFX plate shoot solution, aerial or ground. Wonderfilm’s VFX Array is one of the first in the world to utilise the RED KOMODO-X Body.
We work with an engineer to elegantly design our array assembly from the ground up for a range of shoot applications in the film industry. From heavy duty stabliser heads, to drones with more crucial payload limits.

Manufactured from the ground up, Wonderfilm’s 3-Way VFX Array is equipped with three RED KOMODO-X cameras and three ZEISS 21mm CP.3 XD lenses. The cameras are light weight and capable of capturing 18K, 160° FOV plates up to 80 FPS with a stunning level of detail. Teradek’s wireless ecosystem enables monitoring, lens control, & R/S from 1500 ft away.
Central to our ultra light weight VFX array platform are the three RED KOMODO-X cameras which capture a stunning level of detail with a 6K sensor at 80 FPS and 16.5+ stops of dynamic range.
We manufactured our VFX Array to achieve maximum coverage from the RED KOMODO-X 6K sensor and the ZEISS 21mm CP.3 XD lenses, producing a combined 65.5° FOV per camera.
We applied our expertise gained from working on large-scale VFX shows to the design of our VFX Array. With the needs of large VFX vendors in mind, material from our array includes a 25° FOV overlap for reliable, perfect stitching.
Arranged in a horizontal configuration, three RED KOMODO-X cameras with a 19.9MP sensor and 6144 × 3240 effective pixels produce a combined 18432 x 3240 stitched plate.
The best imaging capability and VFX plate composition are made possible with three identical ZEISS 21mm CP.3 XD lenses. Stitching is reliable and lens distortions can be mapped using ZEISS’s XD technology.
Our production-ready VFX Array rig is designed for big shows. A testament to this is the Teradek Bolt 6 ecosystem designed to make wireless monitoring, lens control, & R/S fully operationally up to 1500 ft.Â
We consulted our black book of top VFX compositors when designing our array to ensure that the deliverables meet the requirements of vendors we work with. With plate stitching workflow in mind, the horizontal configuration includes a 25° FOV overlap between each camera angle.
We know all about the demands of a full-scale production such as Fast & Furious 9. Using the Teradek Bolt 6 LT 1500 TX/RX Deluxe kit alongside the CTRL.5 Controller, our production-ready rig is geared up for all on-set scenarios. Operational from a 1500 ft distance, the Teradek ecosystem enables multi-lens iris/focus control, run/stop triggering, and multi-camera wireless playback.Â

Our array assembly has been manufactured to be light weight, with the metal components we built constructed from sheet metal between 4 and 10 mm in thickness.
This assembly has 6mm thick aluminium components. It is a light configuration including all accessories, within the max payload limit of the Ronin 2. It can be used with a gimbal on a drone or on a tracking vehicle.
The final weight is measured once all the required hardware is assembled on the rig.
All our assemblies are lined with M4, 1/4″-20 and 3/8″ mounting threads for infinite mounting options.
We designed a detachable custom cheese plate for maximum mounting and threading options at the base of our array.

ZEISS eXtended Data Technology captures essential lens data for post-production teams, aiding in achieving optimal stitching results.
The ZEISS eXtended Data (XD) technology, based on the Cooke /i* technology, introduces enhanced opportunities for simplifying and improving the precision of workflows in image capture and processing, particularly in VFX. XD is a distinctive technology that also delivers real-time data on the lens’ distortion and shading characteristics.

Our Array produces a stitched image measuring 18000 x 3500 pixels (160° FOV), including a 25° FOV overlap for reliable vendor processing. We understand that every vendor has a different set of requirements for their Array workflow, so we designed a simple, live stitching review system which can accommodate all scales of productions.
