Wonderfilm Pictures’ RED KOMODO-X™ VFX Array caters for large scale productions looking for a practical VFX plate shoot solution, aerial or ground. Wonderfilm’s VFX Array is the first in the world to utilise the RED KOMODO-X™ Body.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Manufactured from the ground up, Wonderfilm’s 3-Way VFX Array is equipped with RED KOMODO-X platform is light weight and capable of capturing 18K, 160° FOV plates with a stunning level of detail.

KOMODO-X

Central to our ultra light weight VFX array platforms are the three RED KOMODO-X Cameras, the latest evolution in the KOMODO series, capturing a stunning level with a 6K sensor at 80 fps and 16.5+ stops of dynamic range.

160° FOV

We manufactured our VFX Array to achieve maximum coverage from the KOMODO-X 6K Sensor and the Zeiss 21mm CP.3 XD lenses, producing a combined 65.5° FOV per camera.

25° FOV OVERLAP

We applied our expertise gained from working on large-scale VFX shows to the design of our VFX Array. With compositors in mind, material from our array includes a 25° FOV overlap for reliable, perfect stitching.

18K STICHED PLATE

Arranged in a horizontal configuration, three KOMODO-X™ cameras with a 19.9MP sensor and 6144 × 3240 effective pixels produce a combined 18,432 x 3240 stitched plate.

Zeiss 21mm cp.3 xd Lenses

The best imaging capability and VFX plate composition are made possible with three identical Carl Zeiss 21mm CP.3 XD lenses. Stitching is reliable and distortion, which can be mapped using Zeiss’s XD technology.

Our production-ready VFX Array rig designed for big shows. A testament to this is our custom hardware designed to make the rig fully operational remotely within 1500 ft. R/S, FIZ, Playback, Timecode.

We consulted our black book top VFX compositors when designing our array to ensure the deliverables meet the requirements of vendors we work with. With plate stitching workflow in mind, the horizontal configuration includes a 25° FOV overlap between cameras 2 and 3.

Production ready for all on set scenarios. We know all about the demands of a full-scale production such as Fast & Furious 9. Our custom hardware designed to make the rig fully operational remotely within 1500 ft. R/S, FIZ, Playback, Timecode.

DEATAILED SPEC

Our array assembly has been manufactured to be extremely light weight, with the metal components we built constructed from sheet metal between 4 and 10 mm in thickness.

Our custom hardware, cameras lenses and remote features such as the 3 FIZ motors contribute to the overall weight.

WP10001 – 13.2KG

This assembly has 6mm thick aluminium components. It is our lightest, production ready configuration including all accessories, within the max payload limit of the Ronin 2. It can be used with this gimbal on a drone or on a tracking vehicle.

WP10004 – 9.5KG

The final weight is subject to the accessories used. The listed weight is without any accessories except FIZ motors. This platform is better suited to heavy duty applications where weight is less of a dividing factor.

 

 

 

 

We designed our detachable custom cheese plate for maximum mounting and threading options at the base of our array.

All of our assemblies are lined with M4, 1/4″-20 and 3/8″ mounting threads for infinite mounting options.

The CP.3 lenses showcase ZEISS’s renowned clarity and precision, boasting full-frame coverage ideally suited for the RED KOMODO-X™ Cameras. Carl Zeiss eXtended Data Technology captures essential lens data for post-production teams, aiding in achieving optimal stitching results

ZEISS eXtended Data

The ZEISS eXtended Data (XD) technology, based on the Cooke /i* technology, introduces enhanced opportunities for simplifying and improving the precision of workflows in image capture and processing, particularly in VFX. XD is a distinctive technology that also delivers real-time data on the lens’ distortion and shading characteristics.

ZEISS eXtended Data enhances efficiency and cost-effectiveness in VFX, especially for compositing material from our Array which provides frame-accurate details on:

  • Lens distortion characteristics dependent on the focal point
  • Lens shading** characteristics related to the focal point and effective T-stop

Zeiss Cooke /i* technology offers crucial lens data that delivers frame-accurate details on various aspects:

  • Lens Name, type, and focal length of the lens
  • Calibrated focusing distance
  • Calibrated T-stop value
  • Real-time depth-of-field data and hyperfocal distance
  • Horizontal field of view
  • Position of the entrance pupil

Our Array produces a stitched image measuring 18000 x 3500 pixels (160° FOV), including a 25° FOV overlap for reliable vendor processing. We understand that every vendor has a different set of requirements their Array workflow, so we designed a simple, live stitching review system which accommodates for all scales of productions.

Our service is provided with an Array operator and AC’s our kit can be hired in independently.
