Lewis Andrews worked within the XM2 aerial drone unit on the Cinderella movie. A notable aspect of the work was the application of a VFX array camera system, crucial for capturing VFX material, especially for CGI creatures like the three mice portrayed by James Acaster, James Corden, and Romesh Ranganathan. This involved obtaining backplate material essential for seamlessly integrating these characters into Cinderella’s fantastical world.
Lewis Andrews’ approach to this task involved rigging the VFX array camera system to a tracking vehicle using a custom Flowcine stabilized arm. Ensuring precision and stability during filming, the heavy-duty 3-way RED camera array system was a standout feature, delivering high-quality footage vital for the movie’s visual effects. Adding to this, the 3-way camera system was attached to a Movi XL gimbal, enhancing the capabilities in achieving dynamic and smooth shots.
XM2’s role extended across various UK locations, where the drone aerial camera unit tracked the princess on horse and carriage amidst scenic forest landscapes.
The Cinderella movie project exemplified the versatility of the drone and aerial capabilities. From capturing VFX array material to delivering tracking shots in picturesque landscapes, XM2’s commitment to exceptional aerial cinematography shone through. As the story unfolded, the work, facilitated by the 3-way camera system and Movi XL gimbal, blended with the film’s enchanting world, offering audiences a visual spectacle that resonated with the magic of Cinderella.
