A Memorable Experience on the Set of Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One: Working with Tom Cruise During COVID-19
In 2021, Lewis Andrews had the privilege of being a part of the production team for the highly anticipated Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One film, alongside Tom Cruise. This unique job took place amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, adding an extra layer of complexity to the entire production journey.
From the moment Tom Cruise arrived on set in his helicopter, wearing a simple leather jacket, it was evident that this film would be something special. With his dedication and passion, Tom took charge, ensuring everyone understood their roles and responsibilities.
One of the most thrilling moments occurred when the production crew was flown to the top of a mountain, where a carefully constructed ramp awaited. It was here that director Christopher McQuarrie’s vision would finally become a reality. Tom had spent years preparing for the daring motorbike stunt. The plan involved riding the motorbike off the cliff, free falling 6000ft, and deploying a parachute while the bike dramatically crashed below. Remarkably, Tom executed this challenging jump seven times in a single day.
On set, Lewis Andrews worked with the aerial drone unit at XM2, capturing breathtaking shots that added a unique perspective to the film. The use of drones allowed XM2 to capture dynamic aerial footage, enhancing the visual experience for viewers.
Given the ongoing COVID-19 situation, finding suitable accommodation for the crew was a challenge. Tom Cruise generously arranged for the crew to stay on a cruise ship, ensuring safety and fostering a sense of camaraderie among the team.
